The Severn Trent Water and Derby City Council ‘Home Energy and Water Efficiency’ Project has been running since last April, helping residents of Spondon save money on their energy and water bills.
Since then more than 600 people have been given advice, either in person or on the telephone, about the benefits of having water meters fitted, insulation installed, switching fuel suppliers and installing renewable energy such as solar panels. Residents have also been able to find out about Winnie and Tony, Severn Trent Water’s new wind turbines which will generate renewable energy for Derby’s sewage treatment works at Raynesway.
The Project has been out and about raising awareness on how residents could be more energy and water efficient. This has included:
- Update presentations at six Neighbourhood Forum meetings
- Six advice sessions at the local libraries drop-in sessions
- Three project / wind turbine awareness raising sessions
- Carrying out three home visits to resident to talk about saving energy, saving water and home insulation
- Taken the ‘Fantastic Home’ mobile exhibition to four sites, including Asda in Spondon and outside the Co-op Food Store on Chapel Street.
Local Councillors have also been running awareness raising sessions about the project and the wind turbines at Spondon Village Hall and Edmund Hall, while Jon Beeson, Renewable Energy Project Specialist from Severn Trent Water, has also attended to talk to residents about the wind turbine development at their Raynesway works site.
The Project continues to provide specialist home energy advice visits to those in the most need so if you know someone who could benefit from a home visit or you would like more information, please contact the Derby Home Energy Advice Team on 01332 640810 or email: energy.adviceteam@derby.gov.uk.
The team is also very keen to speak to community groups and offer workshops/training to local residents. If you run a group, or are a member, and think your group would be interested in having a workshop, presentation or training on home energy please contact the Derby Home Energy Advice Team on 01332 640810 or email: energy.adviceteam@derby.gov.uk.
