More improvements for Spondon cemetery

The Friends of Spondon Cemetery group continue to make great progress in improving the environment around our local cemetery.

The group was formed in January 2014 and consists of Councillor Chris Poulter, local residents, Bereavement Services, Neighbourhood Officers and representatives from both Spondon funeral directors.  They meet quarterly at Spondon Village Club and arrange other activities in-between.

Aims and Objectives of the Group

Is to preserve, protect and enhance for the public benefit the historic Spondon Cemetery situated on Stoney Lane. The objectives include:

  • Supporting Derby City Council in ensuring the site is kept tidy
  • Liaising with Bereavement Services about future development in the cemetery
  • Forming good community links with local funeral directors
  • Researching historical information
  • Encouraging public interest in the cemetery
  • Applying for local grants to improve the cemetery grounds

The projects achieved so far include:

  • Installation of a new water supply 
  • Large Bird table 
  • Additional wooden bench 
  • General tidy up of area
  • Planting of daffodils in grounds
